Providers of welding and fabrication services supply welding and structural fabrication for a variety of materials.  These vendors also supply a selection of services including machining, CAD support, and field welding. Services, materials, and certifications or quality requirements are all important to consider when searching for suppliers of welding and fabrication services. Services offered by providers of welding and fabrication services include welding, machining, pressure vessel fabrication, CAD or CAM support, piping fabrication, and field welding. 

Materials processed by providers of welding and fabrication services include aluminum, cast iron, copper, ornamental iron, stainless steel, structural steel, tool steel, exotic metals, and plastic.  Aluminum is a silvery-white, ductile metallic element.  Having good conductive and thermal properties, it is used to form many hard, light, corrosion-resistant alloys. Cast iron is a hard, brittle, nonmalleable iron-carbon alloy, cast into shape. Copper is a common reddish metallic element that is ductile and malleable and is one of the best conductors of heat and electricity. Ornamental iron is iron that is formed in shape to be used for ornamental purposes such as fencing or decorative products. Stainless steel is a family of corrosion resistant steels containing a minimum of 10% chromium.  Other amounts of nickel, molybdenum, titanium, niobium as well as other elements may be present. Exotic metals include metals and their alloys with special properties and applications.  Plastic materials include thermoplastic resins that can be joined by welding by a variety of welding techniques.

Certifications and quality requirements met by providers of welding and fabrication services can include ISO 9002, D.O.T registration, ASME U-stamp, and National Board R-stamp.  ISO 9002 sets out the requirements for an organization whose business process range from production, installation and service but do not include design and development. D.O.T. registration is necessary for the fabrication and repair of mobile tanks and vessels. ASME U-stamp gives the authorization from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to "U" stamp code constructed unfired pressure vessels.  This stamp also states that the bearing organization is authorized to register their vessels with the National Board of Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBPVI). The National Board R-stamp allows the company to repair and alter unfired pressure vessels and to register those vessels with the National Board of Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBPVI).
